Sweden’s Trelleborg launches construction works of new aerospace plant in Morocco
Sweden’s Trelleborg, specialized in sealing systems in the aerospace sector, has launched in Nouaceur (outskirts of Casablanca), the construction works of its new industrial plant.
The €10.2 million project will eventually create 150 to 200 jobs and boost the capacity of the local aerospace value chain, in line with the Kingdom’s strategy to improve the sector’s local integration rate.
This strategic investment is part of the development of the Boeing ecosystem in Morocco, in line with the memorandum of understanding signed between Morocco and Trelleborg group on the sidelines of the Marrakech Air Show 2024, held from October 30 to November 2, 2024.
Gordon Roper, President of Trelleborg’s Aerospace Business Unit, emphasized, during the launch of the construction works, the importance of this plant for the development of the aerospace sector in Morocco, asserting that Trelleborg is banking on local expertise to meet the growing demands of the international market.
“Global demand for new aircraft is reaching unprecedented levels,” he noted, adding that “to meet zero-carbon goals and to contribute to the renewal of older fleets with more fuel-efficient models (…), the industry will need around 45,000 new aircrafts by 2030.”
For his part, Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour said this plant will significantly step up Morocco’s integration into the global aerospace supply chain, enhancing the competitiveness of local suppliers and creating highly-skilled jobs.
“This investment marks a historic moment in the opening up of the Moroccan market to Swedish aerospace companies, and a key step in our collaboration with Boeing, by strengthening the aircraft manufacturer’s sourcing from local aerospace players,” he underlined.
He added that this move was an important step in the transformation of Moroccan industry and confirmed the Kingdom’s positioning as a competitive platform serving the region, noting that Morocco remains open and willing to welcome investment in its industrial sector.
Founded in 1905 in Sweden, Trelleborg is a world leader in engineered polymer solutions, with sales revenue amounting to €2.99 billion in 2023.
