Future Congress underscores importance of strategic partnership between Africa, Latin America – Final Declaration

The Future Congress, which wrapped up on Wednesday in Rabat, underscored the importance of the strategic partnership between Africa and Latin America for progress and development as part of South-South cooperation.

In the final declaration issued at the end of the conclave, hosted by the Moroccan Parliament on December 17-18, in collaboration with the “Future Encounters Foundation,” the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of Chile, participants highlighted the two countries’ contribution to reinforcing this strategic partnership, by focusing on the practical dimensions capable of addressing global challenges from a South-South perspective.

The participants also stressed the importance of the Future Congress as a forum for dialogue and joint reflection in a world characterized by a high level of complexity and multiple upheavals, noting that this event helps to foster closer ties and partnerships between national parliaments and regional and international parliamentary institutions, universities and civil society.

In this respect, they emphasized the importance of dialogue between the different components of the international community in order to find innovative solutions to promote good governance and serve common interests, while contributing to the creation of a sustainable future enabling all to benefit from its potential, knowledge, innovations and wealth.

The declaration reiterated the need to pursue cooperation in order to progress in the search for innovative solutions and build a better future for future generations, within a framework of coexistence and respect for others and their cultures, adding that it is vital to build peace and security on the basis of respect for international law.

It also underlined the paramount importance of “respecting the sovereignty of countries and their territorial integrity, in line with international legitimacy, and preventing crises and conflicts that hinder stability, development and coexistence.”

Regarding climate change, the document recommended urgent measures to reverse the trend in global warming gas emissions, promote access to green technologies for Africa and Latin America, and boost energy production from renewable resources.

It likewise called to facilitate the transfer of technologies to the countries of both continents, in order to enable them to sustainably exploit their agricultural land, guarantee local food security and make the fight against pollution of the seas and oceans one of the priorities of the climate agenda.

The final declaration commended Morocco’s initiatives, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, to set up vaccine production projects for Moroccans and Africans, stressing the importance of making reflection on the future challenges facing humanity a major focus of national development plans and the agendas of congresses and multilateral organizations’ meetings.
