Tunisia: UGTT approves general strike in principle

The Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) decided to stage a general strike in the public sector and civil service, at a date to be scheduled by National Administrative Committee, Echaab News reported on Sunday.

The decision was made by the UGTT National Council which held a meeting September 5 to 7.

This strategic move aims to push for key objectives, namely securing the right to negotiate, establishing a social dialogue, upholding trade union rights, enforcing existing agreements, and addressing pressing social demands.

The decision underscores the UGTT’s commitment to defend labor rights and improve working conditions in Tunisia’s public sector.
