Ryanair opens fourth Moroccan base in Tangier
A European low-cost carrier opened its fourth base in Tangier that will connect the northern city to domestic and European destinations in line with the country’s tourism strategy.
The new base will help the airline to connect Tangier with 25 destinations, of which 13 are new destinations, with eight being cities within Europe and the remaining five being domestic destinations within Morocco, Ryanair said in a statement.
The new Tangier hub adds to three existing ones in Agadir, Fez and Marrakech.
“Our latest base opening takes Ryanair’s total investment in Morocco to over $1.4bn, supporting over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs and delivering growth in the local tourism economy,” Airline CEO Eddie Wilson stated.
Morocco and Ryanair signed a deal to launch 11 domestic flights in Morocco in summer 2024 linking 9 cities: Agadir, Errachidia, Essaouira, Fez, Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Oujda, Tangier, and Tetouan.
The decision is part of the low-cost airline’s plans to double its passengers to and from Morocco by 2027 to 10 million.
Part of the same vision, Ryanair will add 24 new destinations linking Morocco to Spain, Germany, France, the Netherlands, the UK, Italy, Portugal, and Sweden, the statement said.
