Egypt eyes $11.5bn as annual medical tourism revenues

Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population is targeting an annual revenue of $11.5 billion, or 10% of the global medical tourism revenues, the ministry’s spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar has revealed.
Ghaffar also disclosed to Al Arabiya that the North African country intends to launch an electronic platform to provide tourism services within 3 months.
The Saudi media also notes that a few days ago, the Egyptian Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, directed the Supreme Committee for Medical Tourism in his country to quickly complete the electronic platform for the medical tourism system, and to work with all sectors of the state to improve the level of medical tourism services.
The minister reportedly also indicated that the Arab country is qualified to receive this type of medical tourism, as it has qualified health facilities and distinguished doctors, and it also has an ambitious plan and vision to be on the international map in medical tourism. The Supreme Committee for Medical Tourism, the spokesman also told Al Arabiya, discussed the proposed plans to revitalize medical tourism, in addition to developing existing hospital centers in Egypt, as well as discussing developing a strategic marketing plan, in addition to several proposals regarding the budget for promoting health tourism.
Egyptian authorities in July valued global medical tourism at $115 billion annually.
