Kais Saied to carry out Cabinet reshuffle after July 25 – Ally
Tunisia President Kais Saied will carry out after July 25 a major Cabinet overhaul and will tap into domestic skills, Mahmoud Ben Mabrouk, member of July 25 movement – ally of the leader has revealed.
July 25 movement also known as National Youth Movement of Tunisia, supports Saied and his July 25, 2021 actions during which he froze and later dissolved the parliament, firing then Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi. The moves led to constitutional reforms and December unpopular legislatives.
Mabrouk, member of the national Bureau of the party, also indicated that the Cabinet reshuffle will concern nearly 90 per cent of the various departments including the ministry of Finance.
The ministry is currently held by Siham Nemsieh appointed in 2021.
The North African country is facing an economic hardship with debt put at about $37 billion at the end of 2022, or 79.9 percent of Gross domestic product. The country has turned to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a $2-billion bailout but talks stall over demands to restructure public bodies and lift subsidies on basic goods.
Saied has already fired several ministers from the Cabinet led by Najla Bouden. The last to be fired was minister of Industry, Energy and Mines Neila Nouira Gongi, in early May.
