Marrakech airport security arrest Brazilian couple over cocaine smuggling
Police at the Marrakesh-Menara International Airport arrested on Sunday a Brazilian couple aged 26 and 29, for trying to smuggle in 1 kg and 260 g of cocaine inside their stomach.
The extracted hard drug was packed inside 100 capsules, swallowed by the Brazlian couple.
The suspects were apprehended upon arrival aboard a flight from a European country.
The drug traffickers were remanded in police custody to complete the investigation, under the competent prosecution, and discover the possible ramifications of this criminal activity.
Last Friday, the Tangier Police services revealed that 59kg and 218g of cocaine were seized at the Tangier Med Port. The banned substance was hidden in a cargo of frozen tuna.
Preliminary investigations had shown that the refrigerated container was used to smuggle a large quantity of cocaine, hidden in a shipment of fish, from Ecuador to Spain.
The probe is ongoing, in coordination with Interpol, to identify all members of the international criminal network involved in the smuggling operation.
