Morocco: Gold coins worth over $51 K seized in Tanger-Med
The customs operating at the port of Tanger Med have recently foiled an attempt to smuggle gold coins worth nearly $51,500.
The customs aborted an attempt to smuggle out 150 pure gold old French coins without authorization, a source at the customs said.
A Frenchman attempted to smuggle these coins, weighing 964 grams, out of the Moroccan territory. Following the scanning procedure, a careful manual search of his travel bag allowed the seizure of the coins.
Investigations have shown that the coins date back to the Napoleon Bonaparte era.
