UN Security Council commends Morocco’s role in peacebuilding in CAR

The UN Security Council adopted resolution 2605 (2021) extending by one year the mandate of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), in which it commends the active role of Morocco in peacebuilding in the African country.

Morocco, Chair of the Central African Republic Configuration of the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC), in the person of Omar Hilale, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, is closely following all developments related to the consolidation and sustainability of peace in CAR and is working to mobilize international support for security and prosperity in this country.

In this context, and prior to the consideration of the situation in CAR by the Security Council, Omar Hilale held a meeting at the level of ambassadors, which was attended by Henri-Marie Dondra, Prime Minister and Head of the Central African Government, Mankeur Ndiaye, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of MINUSCA, representatives of civil society in the Central African Republic, as well as the Member States of the United Nations.

Subsequently, Morocco submitted the observations of the Configuration to the Security Council in anticipation of the renewal of the mandate of MINUSCA, putting forward the perspective of peacebuilding for a way out of the crisis in the African country, the strengthening of the rule of law, the fight against impunity, and the creation of the necessary conditions for the socio-economic development of the country.

The Kingdom’s effective commitment to peace and stability in the Central African Republic is also reflected in the participation of a contingent of the Royal Armed Forces in MINUSCA, placing it among the top 10 troop contributing countries to this UN peace mission.

Morocco’s actions in favor of the Central African Republic at the multilateral level are in addition to the multifaceted support that the Kingdom provides bilaterally to the Central African authorities and people, to promote peace, stability and sustainable prosperity in this country.
