Morocco to help Mauritania counter Covid-19

Morocco is planning to ship medical aid to Mauritania and share its anti-coronavirus expertise with its southern neighbor, the Mauritanian foreign minister Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said.

Ould Cheikh Ahmed, speaking to Mauritanian news agency, said he had a phone call with his Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita who informed him of a Royal decision to send an aircraft loaded with medical aid to help Nouakchott fight the coronavirus.

The Mauritanian minister commended Morocco for controlling the spread of the pandemic and voiced optimism regarding bilateral ties between the two neighboring countries.

After it was declared coronavirus free in May, cases resurged in Mauritania where the lockdown was hastily lifted.

Total cases rose to 1439 including 36 deaths and 1034 recoveries.
