Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi has announced that the government will soon present a series of draft laws targeting money laundering, illicit enrichment, conflicts of interest and corruption, a move welcomed by lawmakers from both the majority and the opposition.
Speaking during question time in the House of Representatives, Ouahbi said the bills would be introduced “in a climate of calm and without political overbidding.”
The announcement drew applause across party lines, including from the Justice and Development Party (PJD).
The initiative comes as the government faces mounting pressure to strengthen transparency and economic governance. Economy and Finance Minister Fouzi Lekjaa recently criticized what he called “savage” or predatory capitalism, denouncing monopolies, rent-seeking and the pursuit of excessive quick profits that he said had distanced Morocco from the spirit of a true social state.
Ouahbi stressed that the new legislation must fully respect the presumption of innocence and fair-trial guarantees.
