A delegation of high-ranking U.S. military officials from the American Embassy in Rabat has visited lately the Atlantic port of Dakhla, a major deep-water megaproject currently under construction on Morocco’s Atlantic coast in Sahara, designed to serve as a strategic trade gateway to West Africa and landlocked Sahel economies.
The visit was announced by the U.S. embassy in Rabat on its X account, saying the trip was an opportunity for the American military delegation to discuss with local Moroccan officials the port’s strategic importance, connectivity, economic development, and shared security priorities.
This visit comes just a few weeks after the mid-August trip made by an economic and political delegation from the U.S. embassy to the same port, highlighting Washington’s growing interest in Dakhla’s strategic projects and economic potential in the Sahara.
The United States supports economic development and investment opportunities in the Moroccan Sahara, moving forward from diplomatic backing to direct financial and commercial engagement.
