Head of Libya’s High Council of State Mohamed Takala on Sunday rejected Central Bank Governor Naji Issa’s resignation and urged him to remain in office.
Takala said Issa’s continued service was necessary given the country’s current economic situation, particularly to safeguard financial and monetary stability and ensure continuity in state institutions.
He also urged the Governor to focus on controlling public spending and preventing violations involving foreign exchange and banking transactions. Earlier in August 2026, Issa formally submitted his resignation, citing only “sensitive matters” without providing specific reasons.
Issa became Central Bank Governor in October 2024, succeeding Sadiq al-Kabir under a political settlement between Libya’s House of Representatives and High Council of State brokered by the United Nations.
