Morocco and Indonesia have reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a particular focus on expanding cooperation in the field of defense. The two countries expressed this common will during a meeting held on Tuesday in Jakarta between Morocco’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Redouane Houssaini, and Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.
The meeting reviewed the current state of relations between the two countries and discussed the prospects for enhanced cooperation under the framework of the strategic partnership signed between Morocco and Indonesia in 2023. The encounter provided an occasion to assess progress to date and identify areas where the partnership could be reinforced at the institutional and military levels.
Defense Minister Sjamsoeddin praised the quality of ties between the two nations and described the bilateral partnership as being on a positive trajectory. He expressed Indonesia’s desire to deepen cooperation between the two countries’ defense departments, placing particular emphasis on the exchange of expertise, joint training programs, and strengthened direct contacts between their respective armed forces.
Ambassador Houssaini, for his part, underscored the high importance that Morocco — under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of the Royal Armed Forces General Staff — attaches to its relations with Indonesia, a strategic partner in Southeast Asia and a key actor in the Islamic world. He outlined Morocco’s defense policy as grounded in modernization, openness to international partnerships, and the promotion of regional and international stability.
Both sides acknowledged the considerable untapped potential of defense cooperation and agreed to pursue consultations to develop a mutually beneficial partnership. The two countries share deep historical, cultural, and civilisational ties and regard themselves as responsible actors in their respective regions, committed to peace, security, and a pragmatic, inclusive multilateralism.
