Libya, WHO sign 2026–2027 framework to rebuild health system

Libya’s Ministry of Health under the Government of National Unity on Tuesday, May 5, signed a strategic cooperation framework with the World Health Organization, outlining a technical partnership roadmap for 2026–2027 aimed at strengthening the country’s healthcare system.

The agreement was finalized during a meeting in Tripoli attended by Health Minister Mohammed Al-Ghouj, WHO Regional Director Hanan Balkhy, and WHO Country Representative Ahmed Zouiten.

The framework prioritizes improvements in primary healthcare delivery, support for clinics and hospitals, enhanced operational efficiency, and the development of referral and emergency response systems.

Libyan authorities say the initiative is part of broader efforts to rebuild essential services after years of armed conflict that have significantly weakened the country’s healthcare infrastructure.
