Libya and Malta Advance Strategic Security Partnership

On 8 February 2026, Libya’s Interior Minister‑designate, Emad Al‑Trabelsi, held a substantive discussion with Malta’s Ambassador, Franklin Aquilina, and Special Envoy Alexander Dalli on strengthening bilateral security cooperation.

The meeting, convened at the Libyan Interior Ministry in Tripoli, focused on enhancing joint mechanisms for training, capacity building and coordinated responses to shared threats, notably illegal migration and border insecurity.

Both sides emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise, improving readiness of security agencies and intensifying collaboration against migrant smuggling and human trafficking networks.

Al‑Trabelsi reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to expanding technical and training partnerships with Malta to bolster regional stability and professionalize security institutions.
