
Libya: PM Dbeibah pledges stronger decentralization as new municipal leaders take office
Libya’s Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, met on August 26 with winners of the second round of municipal elections, which saw strong youth representation and notable participation by women, according to preliminary results. He congratulated the new leaders, reminding them that their victory carries a weight of responsibility in serving citizens and managing local affairs.
Dbeibah reaffirmed his government’s commitment to decentralization and empowering municipalities, describing local governance as the foundation of real development. He urged the councils to continue major infrastructure projects, particularly in central Tripoli, and to avoid political disputes in order to safeguard stability and deliver effective services to the public.
