ANC delegation calls for strengthening economic, trade relations between Morocco & South Africa

A visiting South African delegation, led by Deputy Chairperson of the International Relations Committee at the African National Congress (ANC), Obed Bapela, has called for strengthening economic and trade relations with Morocco.

The call was launched after a meeting in Rabat on Monday between the ANC delegation and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

In a statement to the press following the talks, the head of the ANC delegation, who is also member of the ANC National Executive Committee, called for strengthening economic and trade relations between his country and Morocco, and invited Moroccan companies to invest in South Africa, recalling that many South African companies are already established in Morocco.

At the multilateral level, Bapela welcomed Morocco’s return to the African Union, a space where, he said, the two countries “can work together” to address the challenges facing Africa.

The Deputy-President of the ANC International Relations Committee also recalled Morocco’s support for South Africa’s struggle for independence, noting that the Kingdom was among the first countries visited by South African leader Nelson Mandela after his country’s independence to express his thanks to the Moroccan people for their contribution to the liberation of South Africa and to consolidate bilateral relations.
