Global FIFA Ranking: Morocco’s football team jumps to 11th spot
The Moroccan national football team jumped to the 11th rank in the FIFA World Ranking for the current month of December, released Thursday, to hold thus the first rank in Africa and the Arab world.
The Moroccan national team benefited from the positive results of the matches it held before the World Cup finals, as well as from the historic achievement it scored in the Qatar 2022 where it reached the semi-finals.
Morocco won their quarter-finals against Portugal to be among the four best teams in the 2022 World Cup, where Morocco was hailed as the story of the tournament.
With 1672.35 points, the Atlas Lions now lead the African and Arab countries, ahead of Senegal in 19th spot and Tunisia in 30th.
FIFA described Morocco (11th, up 11) and Australia (27th, up 11) as the latest edition’s biggest climbers, with the Atlas Lions also earning the title of ‘Mover of the Year’ having won more points (142) than any other team since the end of 2021. The Moroccans are now in their best ranking position since April 1998.
Morocco will surely aspire to reach the top 10 teams in the world with the next continental competition AFCON, a couple of wins in African matches will cement the Lions spot and further entrench their position in the FIFA World Ranking.
Brazil tops the rankings followed by Argentina, France, Belgium, England and the Netherlands, respectively, then Croatia, Italy, Portugal and Spain, followed by the Moroccan national team.
