Benin gives up to host 45th CAF Ordinary General Assembly
Benin’s capital Cotonou will no longer host the 45th Confederation of African Football (CAF) Ordinary General Assembly as expected, local “24H Au Benin” reports.
The African football governing body according to the media has moved the congress to Kenya as replacement. The media citing unnamed sources notes local authorities have informed CAF about inability to host the continental event, without providing reasons for the backtracking.
CAF in March announced that Benin was chosen to host the Assembly and expressed eagerness to work closely with the Benin Football Association, Benin Government and various stakeholders in hosting its member associations. The event was expected to be the first CAF Ordinary Assembly to be hosted in Benin.
The small West African country previously hosted the 2021 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup between Algeria’s JS Kabylie and Raja Club Athletic of Morocco.
