European ambassadors commend King’s vision for further democratization of public access to Morocco’s rich cultural heritage
European Ambassadors accredited to Morocco commended the vision of King Mohammed VI for the continued democratization of public access to Moroccan and international culture.
This came during a working luncheon hosted for the European Union Heads of Mission by the Italian Ambassador in Rabat, Armando Barucco, and the Ambassador of the EU, Patricia Llombart Cussac.
The European diplomats also praised the National Museums Foundation (FNM), for its tireless efforts to enrich and diversify Morocco’s museum heritage, with 17 museums opened since 2011, and other major projects still in the pipeline, such as the Museum of Islamic Art to be hosted by “Palais El Batha” in Fez. This contributes to the continuous transformation of the Kingdom’s museum system, said a joint press release by the EU Delegation and the Italian Embassy in Rabat.
The event, held in an exceptionally cordial atmosphere, provided an opportunity for the diplomats to emphasize the outstanding level of Morocco-EU cultural cooperation, and to discuss the Foundation’s strategic initiatives, aimed at establishing additional museums and explore various collaborative avenues within the framework of cultural and neighborhood policies of the EU, the press release said.
The EU diplomats expressed willingness to support the Foundation’s museums programs and to help it foster creativity, and preserve and restore heritage. This includes leveraging national expertise, especially through training and professional exchange initiatives, and assisting Morocco in creating an open cultural Mediterranean, African, and European space.
They also affirmed the EU countries’ shared ambition to cooperate actively in implementing joint cultural initiatives and programs with Morocco, for the benefit of intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding between their respective peoples.
