Another Moroccan UN Peacekeeper Killed in Central African Republic

A Moroccan peacekeeper, severing in the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), was killed Thursday in an attack in the southeast of this African country.

The announcement was made Friday by the UN Mission in CAR, without identifying those responsible for the deadly assault. “A blue helmet from the Moroccan contingent of MINUSCA died after an attack at the Obo aerodrome”, said the UN Mission in a press release.

The UN Mission has condemned the attack warning that “any attack on the life of a peacekeeper can be considered a war crime” under international law and liable to prosecution by national or international justice.

The UN mission has opened an investigation to determine the “exact circumstances” of this attack and urged the Central African authorities to spare no effort to identify the perpetrators of this attack to bring them to justice.

MINUSCA is deployed in CAR since 2014 and is currently made up of 14,000 Blue Helmets.
