Morocco-Gas exploration: Encouraging results from Anchovy-2 drilling confirmed

Reacting to the press release issued this Monday by the British firm Chariot energy company announcing a major gas discovery offshore the northern Moroccan city of Larache, the Moroccan Office for Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) confirmed the encouraging results from the Anchovy-2 drilling off Larache.

ONHYM said, in a statement, that “following the encouraging results of geological and geophysical studies, it was decided to drill the well called “Anchois-2″, located 38 kilometers from the coast of Larache and 87 kilometers from the city of Kenitra.”

Drilling work began on 17 December 2021, reaching a final depth of 2512 meters on December 31, the statement said.

The office added that the preliminary evaluation of the data confirms that “there is an accumulation of gas at the level of the Anchois-2 well, with a total net thickness of 100 meters, distributed over 6 areas, with thicknesses ranging between 8 and 30 meters for each.”

The licenses for the marine Lexus, located off Larache, were granted to the ONHYM and to the British Chariot Oil & Gas company on May 30, 2019.

The office confirmed that further in-depth analyzes will be conducted in order to verify the assessment of the gaseous capabilities discovered.
