Tunisia buys three Turkish combat drones

The Tunisian defense ministry has signed up for three Turkish combat drones manufactured by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), for a value of almost $80 million.

Russia Today’s Arabic website, which reported the news citing Turkish sources, said in addition to three Anka (Phoenix) combat drones, Turkey will also deliver three ground control systems and train 52 Tunisian Air Force personnel.

The deal, according to media reports, had been in the pipeline for two years pending agreement.

The Anka, envisioned in the early 2000s for tactical surveillance and reconnaissance missions, has now evolved into a modular platform with synthetic aperture radar, precise weapons and satellite communication.

It can collect information remotely and from above the clouds, determine the quality of targets on the water surface, and monitor sites.
