Ryanair Supports Morocco’s Tourism with Resumption of Flights

The Moroccan tourism, the hardest hit sector by the Covid-19 global pandemic, gets a precious boost from the low-cost carrier Ryanair which resumed on Oct.25 its operations in this North African country.
The announcement was made by Mrs. Jason McGuinness, commercial director of the European airline. “We are pleased to support the Moroccan tourism sector by resuming flights to eight Moroccan airports”, she said, calling on its customers to visit “this wonderful jewel of North Africa, by going to Agadir, Essaouira, Fez, Nador, Oujda, Marrakesh, Rabat and Tangiers.”
Strict health measures have been put in place to protect passengers and crews, underlined the commercial director of Ryanair. starting this weekend, The Low-cost company resumes 58 weekly flights on 45 routes to Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Spain and Portugal.
Commenting Ryanair’s decision, Head of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), Adel El Fakir welcomed the return of the airline service after a long period of restrictions imposed on the travel industry.
He said that the two sides have agreed to reconnect the North African Kingdom with the main European markets (France, Spain, Belgium, UK, Portugal, Germany…).
“International visitors will have the opportunity to re-enjoy the diversity, richness and unique experiences that Morocco offers”, affirmed the ONMT chief.
In 2019, 13 million tourists visited Morocco which lost this year $2 bln following the closing its borders due the Covid-19 pandemic. Tourism accounts for 7 pc of the country’s GDP and employs directly more than 500,000 people. The Moroccan authorities have taken several measures to prop up the sector and help it overcome the currently difficult times.
