Guinea Conakry: Morocco’s Autonomy Plan, the Only Solution to Sahara Issue

The government of Guinea Conakry has renewed its full backing to the Moroccan autonomy plan offered for the Sahara, saying this plan is the only solution for the settlement of this regional conflict.

The statement was made Tuesday in Rabat by Foreign Affairs minister Mamadi Touré at a joint press briefing with his Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita.

“We reiterate Guinea’s position and commitment to Morocco and support of the Moroccan initiative on the Sahara issue”, he said, affirming that Conakry deems the Moroccan autonomy plan as the only solution to this dispute.

“We will continue to work on this issue within the United Nations and the African Union”, he added, recalling the commitment made by the AU on the Sahara issue through the creation of a troika entrusted with monitoring developments of the Sahara issue at the United Nations.

Mr. Touré also hailed the excellent and longstanding ties existing between Rabat and Conakry, saying relations between the two countries are gaining momentum under the reign of King Mohammed VI and leadership of president Alpha Condé.

During their talks, the two ministers reviewed the cooperation agreements signed between the two countries which are looking forward to enhancing further their partnership in all sectors.
