Morocco, Benin to Enhance Cooperation in Health Sector

Morocco and Benin have agreed to enhance their cooperation in maternal-child health, practitioners training and medical air services.

The agreements were inked Tuesday in Rabat by the Moroccan Health minister Anas Doukkali and his peer Benjamin Hounkpatin who is on a working visit to the North African kingdom.

A twinning agreement was also signed between Ibn Sina University Hospital of Rabat and the University Hospital of Mother and Child “Lagoon” of Cotonou, while the Ibn Rochd University Hospital of Casablanca will receive Benin’s patients for medical treatments, undera partnership agreement also sealed on Tuesday.

Speaking on this occasion, the Moroccan health minister said these agreements come to strengthen further cooperation ties between the two countries, particularly in the fields of health, medical staff training, pharmaceutical industry and drugs control.

For his part, Mr. Hounkpatin said these agreements will enable Benin to improve the quality of healthcare in his country, praising Morocco’s sustained efforts made for the development of the health sector in the African continent.

On the occasion of this year’s World Health Day, marked April 8th, King Mohammed VI called for a fair and equitable access to health care services in order to achieve a sustainable development, social inclusion and cohesion.

He also called on countries to work more closely together to achieve the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 3, which insists on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all, at all ages, by 2030 – a goal Morocco, like the rest of the international community, has pledged to achieve.
