MEPI : Moroccan Associations Get $10 Million US Grant

Thirteen Moroccan associations benefited this year from a $10 Million grant donated by the U.S. Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) program.

According to MEPI regional director Manu Bhalla, the US financial assistance helps the beneficiary Associations carryout their projects seeking to create job opportunities for disabled persons, former prisoners and support entrepreneurship initiatives.

For Mrs. Stephanie Miley, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Morocco, the US grant awarded to Moroccan associations will enhance further Moroccan-American relations, saying the funded projects will enable young Moroccan people to become more involved in the development of their country and create the leaders of tomorrow.

MEPI started operating in Morocco in 2007. Its mission is to empower partnerships between citizens, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and government institutions to promote common shared solutions for the people of the Middle East and North Africa.

Aiming to advance stability and prosperity in the Middle East and North Africa, MEPI program supports MENA governments and citizens to achieve shared political, economic and stability objectives.

In its fourteenth year, MEPI’s role in MENA region shifted in response to new challenges and opportunities. The MEPI program responds to needs and emerging opportunities for citizens and organizations that target three core objectives: Participatory Governance, Economic Reform, and Educational Advancement.

A cross cutting theme is the focus on government-citizen relations: empowering partnerships between citizens, NGOs, the private sector, and government institutions to promote shared solutions for the people of MENA region.
