Members of the U.S. Embassy’s Economic and Political Sections in Morocco were impressed by the Dakhla Atlantic Port, a strategic project with promising potential to enhance regional connectivity and expand horizons for trade and investment.
The announcement of their trip to the Moroccan Sahara was made by the American embassy in a statement posted on its X account. The U.S. Mission to Morocco continues to strengthen its economic engagement from Tangier to Dakhla and beyond, the statement said.
The United States views the Dakhla Atlantic Port as a vital strategic infrastructure project designed to enhance regional trade and economic development. It will also offer landlocked Sahel countries access to global Atlantic markets. Washington encourages American investment in the Moroccan Sahara viewing the region as an expanding frontier for energy, technology, and infrastructure collaboration.
The United States is supporting a major green hydrogen project in Moroccan Sahara with a $5.7 million grant to finance feasibility study to advance a $4.5 billion green ammonia production facility in Laayoune.
In 2025, ORNX has been selected by Morocco to develop a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia project in southern Morocco. The project aims to deliver export-grade green ammonia to international markets using renewable electricity generated exclusively on-site.
As Morocco and the United States celebrate nearly 250 years of friendship, the two countries pledge to continue to work together to achieve their shared goals of economic growth and prosperity.
In a message addressed lately to King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Throne Day, U.S. President Donald Trump said American technology and innovation will continue to support Moroccan projects in the 250 years ahead, with a focus on strategic sectors such as energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense, as part of efforts to deepen the two countries’ economic and investment partnership.
