Why Major International Hotel Chains Are Betting on Morocco

Major international hotel chains are expanding their footprint in Morocco, drawn by sustained tourism growth and the prospects tied to 2030. Marriott, Hilton, Accor, Radisson and IHG are all reinforcing their presence in the Kingdom, which now counts 75 hotels and resorts in development totaling 10,606 rooms, according to the Hotel Chain Development Pipelines in Africa 2026 report by W Hospitality Group. That makes Morocco the continent’s second-largest hotel development market after Egypt.

The country’s appeal rests on several structural factors, according to hospitality expert Zoubir Bouhoute, who points to Morocco’s proximity to Europe’s main outbound tourism market, its landscape, historical and cultural diversity, competitive costs and reassuring growth potential. Rising tourist arrivals, improving infrastructure, new destinations and the prospect of hosting the 2030 World Cup have combined to create a favorable investment environment, prompting international groups to secure positions in a market expected to grow further over the coming decade.

The expansion extends beyond capacity to a broader upgrading of Morocco’s tourism offering, with international groups deploying brands spanning luxury, lifestyle, resort, business and extended-stay segments. Marriott International illustrates the trend, planning seven new properties in Morocco by the end of 2027, adding more than 800 rooms and introducing brands including AC Hotels, Autograph Collection, Moxy, Residence Inn and Four Points by Sheraton.

Beyond tourism, the growing presence of international chains signals investor confidence, given that hotel groups base decisions on long-term growth expectations. Bouhoute argues that when a recognized international brand chooses Morocco, it immediately strengthens the destination’s credibility and reflects a market seen as stable and capable of delivering durable returns, aided by Morocco’s ability to combine heritage, coastal, urban and emerging tourism segments.

BWH Hotels, which includes Best Western, WorldHotels and Sure Hotel Collection, exemplifies this momentum, launching BWH NWA, a Casablanca-based subsidiary paired with a partnership with Wejhat Hospitality, targeting 25 hotels and nearly 2,750 rooms by 2030, with eight properties joining the network in 2026 across Casablanca, Marrakech, Ouirgane and Ouarzazate.
