King Mohammed VI Congratulates Nabil Fahmy on Election as Arab League Secretary General

King Mohammed VI has addressed a message of congratulations to Nabil Fahmy following his election as Secretary General of the League of Arab States.

In the congratulations message, the Monarch commended the confidence that member states have placed in Nabil Fahmy in recognition of the competence and managerial acuity he has demonstrated across the various senior positions he has held, both within his country and at the international level.

The King conveyed his most sincere wishes for success in Fahmy’s leadership of the League and expressed his conviction that the new Secretary General will make an effective contribution to strengthening Arab collective action, enabling it to respond to the aspirations of the Arab peoples and help them navigate the many challenges they face at the regional, sub-regional and international levels.

King Mohammed VI reaffirmed Morocco’s unwavering support for the various constructive initiatives undertaken by the League in pursuit of its objectives and in the service of building a better future for the Arab world. The Royal message also paid tribute to the efforts and dedication of outgoing Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, whose long tenure guided the organization through a particularly demanding period in the region’s history.

The path to achieving Arab solidarity, as set out in the Royal message, runs through the development of more effective coordination and cooperation mechanisms between Arab countries, the revitalization of the spirit of solidarity and integration, and a firm commitment to defending Arab interests, territorial integrity and national sovereignty. These principles, the King stressed, remain the foundation on which a stronger Arab institutional order can be constructed.

Nabil Fahmy previously served as Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and as the country’s ambassador to the United States and Japan, among other senior diplomatic postings. His election to lead the Arab League signals a renewed emphasis on diplomatic experience and international engagement at a moment when the organization faces complex challenges across the Arab world.
