Morocco, Strategic Market for Chile & Gateway to Africa

Morocco and Chile have voiced shared will and readiness to strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations building on the complementarity of their economies and huge opportunities offered in several strategic sectors.

Cooperation prospects between Rabat and Santiago were discussed Tuesday in Rabat between Moroccan Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Omar Hejira and his Chilean peer Ms. Paula Estévez who is visiting the Kingdom accompanied by an important business delegation.

Talks focused on trade, investment, agriculture, mining, renewable energy and port infrastructure. Chile is betting on Morocco to speed up its expansion in Africa, while the Kingdom eyes stronger ties with Latin America countries.

B2B meetings are scheduled in Rabat to foster contacts between the two countries companies and enable them to explore joint business opportunities.

According to Chile’s public export-promotion agency, demand for Chilean food products in Africa has more than doubled in the last five years, reaching $450 million in 2025, affirming that there is still plenty of room for growth in the market.

Chile is seeking to strengthen its trade ties with Morocco and has begun bilateral talks with the aim of securing a future free trade agreement. It sees the north African country as a key strategic market and gateway to the region.
