Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition, Leila Benali, participated in a conference in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she outlined the kingdom’s strategic vision for sustainable energy, industrial sovereignty, and regional integration. The event, titled “The Energy and Climate Challenges of a Kingdom in Transition,” was organized jointly by the EPFL Model United Nations and the Association des Étudiants Polytechniciens Marocains de Lausanne, and formed part of a broader effort to strengthen dialogue with talented young Moroccans based abroad.
The discussions covered the principal energy and climate challenges of the twenty-first century, including energy security, the ongoing transformation of global energy systems, and the accelerating pace of the clean energy transition. Particular attention was given to the role of innovation, skills development, and youth engagement in driving sustainable development — themes that align closely with Morocco’s own national trajectory as it expands its renewable energy capacity.
Leila Benali used the occasion to present Morocco’s approach to energy transition, framing it within the country’s broader ambitions for industrial sovereignty and regional integration. She emphasized the strategic importance of investing in human capital as a foundational pillar of Morocco’s development model, describing the preparation of future generations for emerging economic and environmental challenges as a national priority.
The official noted that the conference provided a platform for students, academics, and young professionals to engage with questions of climate action, energy innovation, and the long-term future of energy systems. These exchanges reflect Morocco’s growing engagement with international academic networks and its intention to position Moroccan expertise at the forefront of global energy debates.
The organizers, through their combined initiative, contribute to what the Ministry of Energy describes as the promotion of dialogue, academic excellence, and youth engagement around major global challenges. Morocco’s participation in such forums reinforces its international profile as a country actively shaping, rather than simply responding to, the global energy transition agenda.
