Morocco, Liberia Sign MoU to Bolster Security Cooperation

The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, and the Inspector General of the National Police of Liberia, Gregory Coleman, signed, in Rabat this Monday, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on enhancing security cooperation.

The signing ceremony for this memorandum took place at the venue hosting the 7th edition of the Open Days of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), according to a DGSN statement.

As part of the two countries’ mutual desire to strengthen ties of friendship, technical cooperation, and the operational partnership between their police services, this MoU reflects their shared conviction that cooperation constitutes a foundation for consolidating common security, the statement said.

It aims to establish a solid basis for police cooperation to combat various forms of transnational crime, terrorism, and violent extremism through information exchange, technical assistance, operational cooperation, and capacity building for security services.

The MoU also provides for the expansion of police cooperation between the two countries to include the coordination of efforts and action plans in the fields of migration, border policing, scientific and technical policing, police training, and the advancement of training methods to develop policing skills.

The signing of this deal in the field of security cooperation demonstrates the importance of strengthening security partnerships in Africa to consolidate South-South cooperation. It also reflects the DGSN’s commitment to opening up to new regional and international partners in order to promote the Moroccan security model and serve the supreme interests of the Kingdom, the statement added.

The signing this security cooperation agreement aligns with Morocco’s South-South cooperation policy and strategy of promoting its security model, based on multilateral partnerships to counter regional and global threats.

Last November, Morocco hosted the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly which brought together over 196 security delegations including police Chiefs representing all member countries.
