Hanna Tetteh, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, on Sunday, April 26, briefed Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah on progress in implementing an UN-backed roadmap aimed at ending the country’s political deadlock and paving the way for direct elections.
The discussions focused on the initial phase of the plan, including finalizing electoral laws and completing the formation of the board of the High National Elections Commission—two critical steps for establishing a credible electoral framework.
Dbeibah reaffirmed his government’s support for practical and implementable solutions that safeguard national stability and advance the creation of a civil state. He stressed the need for a clear and enforceable electoral framework to facilitate elections, reflect the will of the people and unify state institutions.
Tetteh reiterated the UN mission’s commitment to fostering consensus among Libyan stakeholders and ensuring the necessary conditions for a successful political transition and credible elections.
