Morocco’s Ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, received the “Ambassador of the Year” distinction from the Washington Educational and Cultural Attaché Association (WECAA) during a ceremony on Monday at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, reported the news outlet barlamanetoday.
The award comes as Morocco and the United States mark 250 years of diplomatic ties.
The association recognized Amrani’s role in advancing bilateral relations and cultural cooperation between Rabat and Washington. Diplomats, officials, and members of the U.S. cultural sector attended the ceremony.
Amrani wrote on X that the recognition reflects the depth of the Morocco-U.S. partnership. He described it as a long-standing alliance rooted in shared interests and continued engagement across political, economic, and cultural fields.
“I accept this recognition with a lot of humility,” Amrani said. “I accept this distinction on behalf of the Kingdom of Morocco.”
Amrani credited his embassy team for the work behind the recognition. He said their efforts helped deepen cooperation across sectors and sustain daily engagement between the two countries.
The Moroccan envoy described U.S.-Morocco relations as rooted in history and evolving through ongoing cooperation. He said both King Mohammed VI and U.S. President Donald Trump have made the partnership a priority, advancing what he called a transatlantic alliance with a distinct legacy.
Morocco and the United States share one of the oldest diplomatic relationships in the world. Morocco became the first country to recognize the United States in 1777. The anniversary this year brings renewed attention to cooperation in trade, security, and regional diplomacy.
Amrani has held several senior diplomatic posts before his appointment to Washington. His tenure has included efforts to deepen strategic cooperation through economic exchanges and high-level political dialogue.
