EIB Increases Support for Morocco in 2025, Cementing Rabat-Brussels Partnership

The Rabat-Brussels axis is gaining momentum amid a rapidly changing geostrategic landscape. While the European Union has endorsed lately Morocco’s autonomy plan in the Sahara, the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced a record €740 million funding to the Kingdom in 2025.

The growing political and financial partnership between Morocco and the European Union seeks a shared economic growth, prosperity and regional stability.

During a press conference held Tuesday in Rabat on EIB financial engagement in the Kingdom, EU Ambassador to Morocco Dimiter Tzantchev highlighted the clear EU supportive stand on the Moroccan Autonomy Plan and the record financial investment injected in the Kingdom last year.

Building on the new position adopted by Brussels on the Sahara during latest Morocco-EU Association Council, Dimiter Tzantchev said the Union recognizes Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the most feasible solution for ending the Sahara regional dispute.

This means that the EU rallies behind the historic Resolution 2797 adopted by the UN Security Council, endorsing the Autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty. The European bloc backing gives a new impetus to strategic partnership set between Rabat and Brussels.

On the economic front, EU’s financial arm has increased its support for Morocco’s resilience and sustainable transition. Adrien de Bassompière, EIB representative, said the Bank’s funding to the Kingdom soared from €500 million in 2024 to €740 million to 2025, focusing on the country’s priority sectors including water, energy, education, healthcare, roads and post-earthquake reconstruction in Al Haouz region.

The EIB funding operations carried out in 2025 backed the efforts engaged by the Moroccan government to foster the country’s economic, social and climate resilience.
