The consortium composed of Moroccan construction companies SGTM and TGCC has won the $1 billion contract to build a new terminal at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, according to press reports.
The new terminal, to be built over 600,000 m², is expected to boost the airport’s capacity to over 30 million passengers annually, becoming one of Africa’s largest aviation hubs ahead of the FIFA 2030 World Cup to be organized by Morocco along with Spain and Portugal.
The H-shaped structure, designed by a consortium of Ala Concept, RSHP Architects, and Egis Bâtiment International, features a central building and two wings, a new runway and air traffic control tower. It will be integrated with the future high-speed rail line connecting Tangier and Marrakech.
The new terminal is part of Morocco’s Airports 2030 master plan, which aims to elevate Moroccan airports to world-class standards in performance, efficiency, and international connectivity.
The Casablanca international airport’s expansion is expected to ease congestion, improve passenger experience and reinforce Casablanca’s position as a gateway between Africa, Europe and the Americas.
