Libya, AFRICOM discuss security cooperation

Libya’s Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh met on Monday, December 1st, with US Africa Command (AFRICOM) commander Dagvin Anderson to explore strengthened military cooperation, the Tripoli-based Government announced.
The discussions centered on enhancing training, equipment support and wider capacity-building initiatives aimed at bolstering Libya’s security institutions. Dbeibeh underscored the importance of forging effective defense partnerships and high-quality training programs to professionalize Libya’s military structures, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing stability and addressing regional threats.
AFRICOM’s commander reiterated Washington’s readiness to support Libya and emphasized the value of sustained coordination for regional security. The engagement comes as Libya remains politically divided between rival administrations: Osama Hammad’s eastern-based government appointed by the House of Representatives, and Dbeibeh’s internationally recognized Government of National Unity in Tripoli, which governs the west.
