Sahara: China’s ambassador to Morocco meets MINURSO Chief

Chinese ambassador to Morocco YU Jinsong  has conferred lately in Rabat with MINURSO Chief Alexander Ivanko and reaffirmed her country‘s full support for the UN Mission.

The meeting was announced by the Chinese Embassy on its X account. It comes after the historic resolution 2797 adopted by the UN Security Council endorsing Morocco’s autonomy plan under the Kingdom’s sovereignty.

The US-sponsored resolution passed with 11 votes in favor, 3 abstentions (Russia, China & Pakistan), none against, while Algeria did not participate in the vote.

The meeting between Alexander Ivanko and the Chinese ambassador also comes amid press reports of lay off of several MINURSO officials to cut spendings following slashing of the UN peacekeeping budget
