King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, received on Tuesday at the Royal Palace in Rabat, Mohamed Yssef, former Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Ulema, whom the Sovereign decorated with the Wissam Al Arch (Grand Officer), in recognition of the services rendered to his Religion, his Country and his King, says a statement of the Royal Cabinet.
Afterwards, the Monarch appointed El Yazid Er-Radi new Secretary General of this Council and gave directives to ensure that this high religious body continues to promote the values of moderate Islam and uphold the Kingdom’s religious constants.
Morocco’s Supreme Council of Ulema operates directly under the authority of the Commander of the Faithful, the King. It is tasked with preparing and issuing religious opinions (fatwas), religious supervision and promotion of a moderate and tolerant Islam against the threat of extremism.
