Libya: HNEC cautions against unofficial municipal election results

The Libyan High National Elections Commission (HNEC) has urged the public to disregard any municipal election results not released through its official channels.

At a press conference held over the week-end, the Commission warned that figures circulating on social media or other outlets are unreliable, emphasizing that verified results will only be published on its website and accredited social media platforms.

The Commission confirmed that ballot counting and tallying had commenced and would continue into the night, with tallies moving from polling stations to local offices before reaching the central counting center in Tripoli. Official results are expected within 21 days, although the process may conclude sooner due to suspensions in some municipalities. According to the Commission, 161,684 voters—71% of those who collected voting cards—cast their ballots across 26 councils on Saturday.
