The Sun: Moroccan Businessman Anas Sefroui Interested in Buying Sheffield Wednesday Football Club
Moroccan real estate businessman Anas Sefroui, one of the richest men in Africa, has set sights on buying Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, according to British tabloid The Sun.
Sefrioui, who made his fortune through massive property development deals, has hired a top legal firm to look at potential takeover, said the newspaper.
Other investors from Europe and the United States have also shown interest in purchasing the club which was founded in 1867 and played a key role in providing the rules of modern football.
Sheffield owner Dejphon Chansiri says he is willing to sell to “the right individual, or group, to take our club forward”. Chansiri, who took over in 2015, has faced increasing pressure from fans amid financial difficulties, including delays in player wages and sanctions that have affected the club’s transfer activities.
Last year, the club reported $ 35.3 million in revenue but remains in financial distress following Chansiri’s $13.4 million loss and $92 million debt burden.
