Protests in Bamako against Algeria’s hostile acts

Angry Malians staged a protest in front of Algeria’s embassy in Bamako after the Algerian army downed a Malian drone near the borders within Mali’s territory.

Protesters chanted slogans denouncing Algeria’s hostile act. Some of them accused Algeria of protecting terrorist groups, who have wreaked havoc in northern Mali.

The condemnation shows the perception of Algeria by Sahel people as a state seeking to advance its agenda to the detriment of regional peace and security.

The protesters recalled the ill-treatment of African migrants by Algeria, which has been bussing and abandoning migrants in harsh conditions on Mali and Niger borders.

Mali together with Niger and Burkina Faso recalled their ambassadors to Algiers. Algeria doubled down on provocative acts banning flights to and from Mali from crossing its airspace. Mali responded with a similar measure.
