
Tanger Med climbs in Alphaliner global container port ranking
Tanger Med jumped to the 17th position among the World’s largest container ports, Alphaliner said in its recent ranking.
The Moroccan port won two places after it handled 10.24 million TEU containers in 2024, compared to 8.61 million the previous year.
Tanger Med Port, at the gate of the Gibraltar Strait, outperformed all Mediterranean and African peers.
Outside the region, Tanger Med outpaced global hubs such as Hamburg ranking 24th with 7.82 million TEU containers, and Jakarta (27th with 6.75 million TEU containers).
Shanghai topped the ranking with 51.5 million containers, followed by Singapore (41.12 million TEUs), Ningbo-Zhoushan (39.3 million), and Shenzhen (33.39 million).
The port of Dubai ranked 10th (15.53 million), performing better than Rotterdam (12th with 13.82 million).
