Morocco: King appoints chiefs at constitutional institutions
King Mohammed VI appointed new presidents to the Economic, Social, and Environmental Council and the National Authority for Probity, Prevention, and the Fight against Corruption as well as a new Ombudsman, the Royal Office said in a statement.
Abdelkader Amara became the new president of the Economic, Social, and Environmental Council.
Amara had served as minister of trade and industry, energy, equipment, and water.
Mohamed Benalilou was appointed president of the National Authority for Probity, Prevention, and the Fight against Corruption.
Until his nomination, Benalilou has been the director of the administrative and training division at the Supreme Council of the Judiciary.
Hassan Tariq, former Moroccan Ambassador to Tunis, was appointed Ombudsman of the Kingdom.
These appointments are meant “to ensure that these institutions fulfill the missions entrusted to them by the Kingdom’s Constitution, strengthen their role in upholding the principles of good governance, consolidating participatory democracy, and safeguarding rights and freedoms,” the Royal Office said.
They also aim to reinforce the independence of these constitutional bodies “in order to give new momentum to their missions and enhance their interaction with various national institutions, in the follow-up of the different reforms and major projects in the Kingdom.”
