Egyptian, Palestinian PMs stress need for ceasefire to support Gaza’s reconstruction

The Egyptian and Palestinian Prime ministers stressed the importance of maintaining a ceasefire in Gaza to enable early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

During a meeting in Cairo on Sunday March 23, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reaffirmed his country’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their right to remain on their land throughout the rebuilding process.

Madbouly also highlighted the Gaza reconstruction plan, developed by Egypt and approved at the recent Arab summit in Cairo, which will involve close coordination with both regional and international stakeholders, as well as with the Palestinian leadership, to finalize the details of its implementation. The aim is to ensure a comprehensive and sustainable recovery for the Gaza Strip, which has been heavily affected by ongoing conflicts.

Since Israel resumed airstrikes and ground operations in Gaza last week, breaking a two-month ceasefire, the situation has worsened, with hundreds of casualties reported. The war in Gaza has led to the loss of 50,000 Palestinian lives, mostly women and children, and significant destruction of homes and infrastructure.

In response, Arab and Muslim leaders have endorsed a $53 billion plan for Gaza’s reconstruction, which guarantees that Palestinian residents will remain on their land, in opposition to alternative plans proposed by the US and Israel.
