
Morocco & Brazil join forces to develop innovative farming solutions to ensure food security
Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, OCP Group, and Brazil’s agriculture agency Embrapa have agreed to enhance cooperation in R&D to advance sustainable agriculture.
Under the agreement sealed Monday, the three partners pledge to develop innovative solutions ensuring food security through the implementation of joint projects focusing on advanced agricultural technologies, training of researchers & students and promoting environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
“The partnership reflects our vision of leveraging science and innovation as drivers for the sustainable transformation of agricultural systems. By mobilizing the most advanced knowledge and technologies, we seek to shape a future where agriculture becomes a catalyst for prosperity, resilience, and balance for our planet,” said UM6P President Hicham El Habti.
For her part, Embrapa’s president Silvia Massruhá stressed the importance of this initiative seeking to strengthen joint efforts that will advance innovative solutions for the development of sustainable farming and contribution to global food security.
The future scenario reinforces the need for strategic actions that contribute to sustainable food production, which depends on resources and technologies that can be shared between countries, she said. “In this context, Embrapa has acted very strongly, participating not only in the formulation of national public policies, but in the international scenario, since it is a global agenda that has impacts on the producer in the field and on the domestic and foreign markets”, she comments.
The planned initiatives include the development of innovative fertilizers, the application of digital agriculture techniques, crop biofortification, and the promotion of a circular economy in the agricultural sector. A scholarship program will also be established to facilitate academic exchanges and enhance the capacities of researchers and students from both countries.
