Libya, Somalia forge partnerships in investment, education
Libya and Somalia have signed several Memoranda of Understanding providing for fostering cooperation in investments, educational exchanges, and training opportunities, which are crucial for building human capital and strengthening both nations’ socio-economic development.
The deals were signed during talks in Tripoli between President of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed Younes El-Menfi and visiting Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The signed agreements translate commitment to greater collaboration in education, and a shared vision of supporting each other’s development.
Discussions also covered urban development projects between Tripoli and Mogadishu, with plans to form a joint high-level committee to oversee past agreements and explore new opportunities for educational investments.
At a joint news conference following the talks, Menfi highlighted the potential for joint initiatives through the two countries’ memberships in the Arab League, the African Union, and the United Nations. He noted Somalia’s pivotal role in international forums, particularly as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. These forums offer platforms for furthering educational and developmental goals, with both nations aiming to amplify their global influence through cooperation in various sectors, including education, he said.
Somali President Sheikh Mohamud reaffirmed the historic relationship binding the two nations and expressed Somalia’s commitment to supporting Libya in its efforts to achieve stability and national unity.
