Mauritania to deport Pakistani Nationals detained after illegal entry
The Mauritanian authorities have announced the steps taken to address the situation of a group of Pakistani nationals who had entered the country illegally a few weeks ago via the border with Mali. A press release issued on Saturday, detained the measures, including arrest and impending deportation.
The press release noted that the individuals were detained by the appropriate authorities shortly after their unauthorized entry. A decision was subsequently made to expel them and facilitate their return to Pakistan, their country of origin.
Efforts to transfer the detainees back to Mali were unsuccessful, as Malian authorities declined to admit them, citing the lack of identity or travel documents proving their entry through Malian territory.
Faced with this complication, Mauritanian authorities decided to transport the individuals to Nouakchott to arrange their deportation directly to Pakistan. The deportation process is being carried out in accordance with Mauritanian law and in coordination with the Pakistani consular services in Nouakchott.
The Pakistani consulate confirmed its involvement in the matter, stating that it had communicated with the families of the detained individuals in Pakistan. According to the consulate, the families have agreed to cover the costs associated with repatriating their relatives.
This incident underscores the challenges faced by countries in managing cross-border movements, particularly in regions with porous borders and limited documentation. Mauritania’s swift coordination with consular services highlights its commitment to adhering to legal protocols while ensuring humane handling of such cases.
